I’ve set a goal to write 1,000 words per day.  I set this goal four days ago which means I am 4,000 words closer to my main character and 4,000 words closer to the end of this glorious “I’m writing my first novel” experience.  As with any book, I am growing fond of it.  You know when you pick up a really great book and about a chapter in, you can’t put it down?  That’s how I feel and I hope that sticks with me because it’s a very good way to feel.  But I’ve been careful to stick with my 1,000 words per day.  Why?  Because, I’m new at this and I don’t want to rush it.  I mean, I want this work to be brilliant.  I am not saying that I am brilliant, but I want it to be brilliant.  Does that make sense?  And you can’t rush brilliance.

At this rate, I will have my book up to about 120,000 words in four months.  Now, like I said, I’m new at this, so I might speed it up the further I get into it.  But for now, I think this is a good starting goal.  I don’t want it to end up at 120,000 words of course, more like 100,000 words.  But I’m building in room for edits.

The thing about this book, is that it’s taking quite a bit of research.  It’s a science fiction book, but it’s based in reality…  so like, not too far in the future science fiction but just far enough that I can take some leeway with my futuristic world.  However, I want the leeway to be minimal, meaning that I want most aspects of this future world to be real, or at the very least, believable.  You know, it could be real sometime in the near future.

Anyway, enough about the book for now.  It snowed like the dickens here yesterday.  My son is happy because he’s all into snowboarding and more snow means more ramps and jumps and whatever else those crazy kids do.  And speaking of snowboarding, have you been watching the Olympics!?  Holy smokes do I love the Olympics!  Probably a little too much.  Like, “I can’t wait until they are over so I can get my nights back” too much.

I think that the Universe has given me the Olympic games, which so happened to begin exactly as I enter my new career, as a source of inspiration.  Hope you all have something inspiring in your lives as well!
